Voila, I reopened InDesign and the fonts came back, displaying as they should. Next I went to System Preferences and clicked on “Accessibility.” Then I chose “Display” from the left-hand list and checked the box “reduce transparency”. Finally, I ran updates on the whole CS5 suite. Now I was finally able to open InDesign again! However, now the fonts did not display as their bitmaps. So I then downloaded the entire CS5 Design Premium again this time it liked my registration and happily reinstalled CS5 InDesign again (overtop of the old).
